This week’s activity was plaster casting.  WE had to make a mold of either or hand or foot using plaster!  Unfortunately I could not meet up with the rest of my class at Seal Beach to do the activity since I had work.  However I did end up going to the   I  to the beach at Belmont Shore on Thursday in the late afternoon.

After gathering all my supplies, a bucket, shovel, plaster, and stirring stick,  I drove a friend and myself off the beach.  After lugging all my supplies onto the beach, two life guards came up and told me the beach was closed.  Thankfully we were able to go across the street to where Leeway Sailing Center is to do the project.

Then, my friend Paige shoveled went sand and I packed it onto my hand.

After carefully extracting my hand I mixed the plaster.  I was so scared of messing up!  I’ve never even used plaster before.

After pouring in the plaster we leisurely read for about 30 minutes.

Extracting my plastered hand was probably the hardest part.  I did not want to break my fingers off at all! I told myself “BE CAREFUL”.

I tried so hard but I ended up with broken fingers.  I think I might have buried my hand too deep in the sand or maybe I should have waited a bit longer for the plaster to harden.  I am still satisfied with the results.  This was a fun activity to do.
